ST. LUKE'S HOSPITAL ADDS SCIMAGE'S ENTERPRISE SOLUTION FOR INTEGRATION OF RADIOLOGY IMAGING
Los Altos, CA November 25, 2003 - ScImage, a leading provider of medical image-information management and advanced visualization tools based in Los Altos, California, announced today that it has successfully completed the installation and integration of its PICOMEnterprise solution for radiology images at St. Luke's Hospital (Chesterfield, MO). The installation will provide over 1,000 caregivers access to radiology studies stored on the PICOMEnterprise server using St. Luke's enterprise wide physician Web Portal, WebPINS. The ScImage solution will enable review of diagnostic radiology studies, associated prior images, reports and other key clinical data and will also incorporate several clinical workflow tools and a streamlined spinning disk archive.
In an effort to address integration of several older modalities to PICOMEnterprise, tools for managing workflow, quality assurance and workload have been added. St Luke's RIS is integrated with PICOMEnterprise to process orders and send results messaging, providing the institution with pre and post DICOM Modality Worklist Management and an integrated conflict resolution utility. This ensures data integrity before files are transferred to the storage device. ScImage's Brokerless Worklist is providing 95% automation to a previous manual process of data management, impacting the critical workflow for the more than 200,000 exams performed per year throughout the St. Luke's Enterprise.
Enhanced workflow is only part of the benefit St. Luke's Radiology Department will receive with the ScImage Solution. Radiologists will have direct access to historical reports from within the PICOMEnterprise viewing application. According to St. Luke's Director of Radiology Reggie Hicks RT (R), "This was a primary factor in our decision to utilize ScImage's solution. Integration of prior images and historical reports is a key component of our digital imaging initiative. Being able to tap into our RIS and pull prior reports while viewing the study will save us valuable time when making the round trip from image acquisition, to final report."
As part of bringing the Radiology images online using the ScImage solution, the hospital also required integrating PICOMEnterprise with their existing storage area network (SAN) and IBM Shark, an Enterprise Storage Solution that allows the facility to partition data stores for various departments. "We already had a considerable investment in our IT infrastructure and being able to utilize this investment was a critical factor in our decision to use ScImage," stated Scott Holtswarth, St. Luke's Director of Information Services. "ScImage's open technology approach allowed us to leverage our existing technical environment, which lowered our total cost of ownership of their solution."
When asked to comment on the latest work being done at St. Luke's, ScImage's Founder and CEO, Sai Raya, Ph.D. stated, "Our goal at St. Luke's is to assist them in their global PACS Image and information strategy by providing value added solutions. We are delighted that our shared infrastructure approach will give the facility a means to economically integrate other departments to provide access to patient images and information enterprise wide. We are especially pleased that St. Luke's has selected ScImage as their long-term Enterprise Electronic Image archive solution partner."
