SCIMAGE DELIVERS SEAMLESS INTEGRATION OF MULTI-DEPARTMENTAL IMAGING CONTENT TO CLINICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Los Altos, CA November 22, 2002 — ScImage, a leading provider of image and information management and distribution solutions and medical imaging workstations based in Los Altos, California, introduced the latest version of its enterprise solution—PICOMEnterprise Version 1.3.
PICOMEnterprise Version 1.3 provides an enterprise-wide, web-enabled solution to manage, archive and distribute images and information from different departments within the healthcare enterprise. PACS, Cardiovascular Image and Information Management and Telemedicine are merged at the core and can now be tied to any existing Clinical Information System. Bringing all these functions together creates information portals that can disseminate patient information through a variety of front-ends. According to ScImage’s founder and CEO, Sai Raya Ph.D., “By giving hospital administrators a way to deliver PICOM content from multiple departments to existing Clinical Information Systems, doctors are given a means for creating a more complete picture of the patient’s health condition. The result is better clinical decisions because the physician can access the necessary data.”
Extending ScImage’s original cardiology focus to handle end-to-end radiology workflow has clear financial benefits, as well, according to Dr. Raya, who states, “Whether you are a single imaging center or a multi-hospital system, PICOMEnterprise Version 1.3 provides a way to acquire, manage and distribute data from multiple departments. The result is a lower total cost of ownership across the enterprise because you are not buying several systems to accomplish the same thing. Version 1.3 delivers tighter integration with less pieces, making administration a snap.”
Version 1.3 is also easily integrated with the company’s existing technology. ScImage’s powerful volume-rendering image workstation, NetraMD works in concert with PICOMEnterprise Version 1.3 to give physicians the proper tools for advanced image analysis. NetraMD can be configured with software that allows physicians to perform a variety of screening procedures. The available applications are Cardiac Scoring, Virtual Colonoscopy, CT/MR Angiography, Lung Screening and Bone Mineral Densitometry.
Customers who wish to store images locally or employ a telemedicine solution within their facility can do so by adding external, secure access to the PICOMEnterprise server. Using the latest in security protocols and eliminating the need for a secondary web server to distribute images across the enterprise keeps the solution simple and enhances the workflow inside the department.
According to Dr. Raya, “Combining both NetraMD and PICOMEnterprise, gives our customers a powerful software driven image post-processing workstation and an advanced storage and distribution device. If you add in our HIPAA compliant offsite archive and disaster recovery solution and Telemedicine portal, PICOMOnline, you have a total package that gives the health care enterprise everything they need to be productive and keep their data safe.”
Responding to questions regarding HIPAA compliance and security, Dr. Raya states, “Accessing data from PICOMEnterprise for telemedicine purposes or from our offsite disaster recovery archive and Telemedicine portal, PICOMOnline, means images are downloaded to the local user’s PC via secure token technology. Keeping HIPAA compliance in mind, we use the highest commercially available encryption. Moreover, user privileges can be set to auto-delete data as soon as the user completes viewing, keeping Protected Health Information out of the hands of unauthorized users.”
