SCIMAGE DUAL FLY-THROUGH VIRTUAL COLONOSCOPY PROVIDES MORE COMPLETE PICTURE OF THE COLON
Los Altos, CA September 4, 2002 - ScImage, a leading provider of image and information management and distribution solutions and medical imaging workstations based in Los Altos, California, introduced the latest in its line of productivity tools for its medical imaging workstation-NetraMD. The Dual Fly-through Virtual Colonoscopy module developed by ScImage is the first system to support simultaneous volumetric and endoscopic fly-thru exploration of prone and supine acquisitions on the same screen "Placing prone and supine acquisitions together on the same screen and allowing the physician to perform both volumetric and endoscopic virtual fly-thru exploration of the colon provides a more complete picture," says Sai Raya, Ph.D., founder and CEO of ScImage.
The module requires no expensive graphics hardware, no dedicated 3D modeling systems and no time-consuming pre-processing. By simply pointing and clicking near the rectum, the module uses sophisticated algorithms to track the center line through the colon allowing the user to begin reading the case in just under eight minutes-making it the fastest virtual colonoscopy module to date. During the review process, the user has an unrestricted view of all angles inside and outside the colon to investigate specific areas of interest. The user can also use the standard 2D images to verify specific areas of interest. Users can also bookmark specific areas of interest for further review, measure and annotate significant polyps and perform tissue characterization using a data probe. It is available on standalone NetraMD workstations as well as in the PICOMEnterprise and PICOMOnline PACS/Teleradiology environments.
